SEMESTER I

Criteria in Site selection , principles of house planning, Types of house plans – Site plan, floor plan, Elevation, Cross sectional plan and perspective plan.

Building Components and – Substructure – Foundation, types of foundations,  Superstructure – Wall, Doors and Windows, Roof.

Unit 4.

 Building Services: Water supply, Electricity, Plumbing and sanitation

Unit 5.

Conservation Practices- Rain water Harvesting, utilization of solar energy, Waste management at household level.

DSC-2D Entrepreneurship Management(64Hrs)

Unit 1.

Entrepreneurship – Introduction & Definition of Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneur & Enterprise – Functions of Entrepreneur -factors influencing Entrepreneurship – pros and cons of being Entrepreneur – qualities of an Entrepreneur – types of Entrepreneur.

Unit 2.

Small Scale industry – Definition – meaning – Product Range – capital Investment – ownership patterns – meaning and importance of tiny industries, Ancillary Industries, cottage industries. Role played by SSI’s and the steps taken to solve the problems – policies governing SSI’s.

Unit 3.

Formation of small scale industry – Business opportunity, scanning the environment for opportunities, evaluation of alternatives and selection based on personal competencies. Steps involved in the formation of a small business venture – location, clearances and permits required, formalities, licensing and registration procedure. Assessment of the market for the proposed project – financial, technical, market and social feasibility study.

Unit 4.

Preparing the business plan (BP) – meaning, importance, preparation – BP format – financial aspects, marketing aspect, human resource, technical aspect, social aspect of the BP. Common pit falls to be avoided in preparation of a BP. 

Unit 5.

Project assistance – Financial assistance through SFC’s, SIDBI, Commercial banks, IFCI – non financial assistance from DIC, SISI, AWAKE, KVIC – Financial incentives for SSI’s and tax concessions, assistance for obtaining raw material, machinery, land and building and technical assistance – industrial estate, role and types.

DSC-2D Entrepreneurship Management (64 Hrs)

  1. Preparation of a project report to start a SSI unit.
  2. Preparing a letter to the concerned authority – seeking licenses to the SS unit, you propose to start.
  3. Format of a business plan.
  4. Visit and Survey of SSI unit.
  5. Chart showing financial assistance with rate of interest and tax concessions available to SSI .

Design Concept: Designing of invitation card, greeting card, floor mat, table mat, flower carpet and rangoli

Table setting – Formal and informal breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Menu planning, types of menu,  Tray setting, buffet service, South Indian banana leaf, North Indian thali.

Table Manners –Social grace, responsibilities of Host, guest, Common courtesies.

Unit 4.

Flower Arrangement- flowers and foliage used in an arrangement, styles, mechanics and accessories used in flower arrangement. Care of cut flowers.

Unit 5.

Residence course-underlying philosophy, Organisation of the house, group finance, Duties and responsibilities of the residents, rotation of duties and work plan-planning menu, work simplification, budgeting and purchasing, Entertainment and outing.

Introduction to CAD Application – Importance, application, , opening a drawing, using coordinate system.

Unit 2.

Basic Commands –Line, Circle, Arch, Ellipse, Rectangle, spline.

Unit 3.

Modification tools – Erase, copy, move, scale, rotate, trim, extend, array, offset, mirror, break, Stretch.

Unit 5.

Drawing Precision – using object snap, polar tracking, function keys, manipulating object properties, hatching and Gradient.

Unit 6.

Dimensions and Annotations– types, managing dimension style, creating text and text style.

Introduction to layers – Layer state manager –working with layers.

DSE-2A-2 Introduction to CAD  (64Hrs)

  1. Setting the paper size, setting units, grid limits, drawing limits, snap controls.
  2. Creating a plan and using basic and modification tools.
  3. Creating text using text style, text edit, line type, and weight.
  4. Drawing a floor plan to scales with layers and dimensions.
  5. Generate a design using hatch and gradient.

 Importance of health – Definition (WHO), Role of good food and cleanliness in maintaining health, Importance of physical exercise, Role of yoga, meditation pranayama in maintaining physical, mental and emotional well being.

Unit 2.

Positive thinking – Attitudes, factors that determine attitude- environment, experience, education, benefits, of positive attitude. Consequences of   negative attitude and negative steps in building a positive attitude, importance of self esteem and self confidence.

Unit 3.

Leadership – qualities of leaders, skills of leadership.

Unit 4.

Stress  management – Physical, mental, emotional stress, crisis management. Disappointment and grief, channelling energy through hobbies, community activities.

Unit 5.

Etiquette, entertaining and grooming.

Dress sense – formal, informal, casuals, sportswear, ethnic.

Etiquette – greeting and salutations, art of conversation, table manners.

Skills in entertaining – hosting parties, invites, formal and informal menu planning, selection of linen and table ware, table setting, and table service, special decorations, characteristics of good hostess. Workplace  ethics – communicative skills, social skills, language skills.
